End-of-service laws in Arab countries

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia

Under the Saudi Labor Law (Articles 84 and 85):

  • Half a month’s salary × years of service (first 5 years)
  • A full month’s salary × years of service (after 5 years)
  • Resignation (under 2 years): no gratuity
  • Resignation (2–5 years): one third of the gratuity
  • Resignation (5–10 years): two thirds of the gratuity
  • Resignation (over 10 years): full gratuity

🇦🇪 United Arab Emirates

Under the new 2022 Labor Law:

  • 1–5 years: 21 days × basic salary per year
  • Over 5 years: 30 days × basic salary per additional year
  • Capped at: two years’ salary

🇰🇼 Kuwait

Under the Kuwaiti Labor Law:

  • First 5 years: 15 days’ salary per year
  • After 5 years: a full month’s salary per additional year
  • Capped at: 1.5 years’ salary
  • Resignation (under 3 years): 50% of the gratuity
  • Resignation (3–5 years): 66% of the gratuity

🇶🇦 Qatar

Under the Qatari Labor Law:

  • After completing one full year: 3 weeks (21 days) × basic salary per year
  • No cap

🇧🇭 Bahrain

Under the Bahraini Labor Law:

  • First 3 years: half a month’s salary per year
  • After 3 years: a full month’s salary per additional year

🇴🇲 Oman

Under the Omani Labor Law:

  • First 3 years: 15 days’ salary per year
  • After 3 years: a full month’s salary per additional year

🇯🇴 Jordan

Under the Jordanian Labor Law:

  • A full month’s salary × years of service
  • Applies in all cases (resignation, termination, retirement)

🇪🇬 Egypt

Under the Egyptian Labor Law (No. 12 of 2003):

  • Half a month’s salary × years of service (first 5 years)
  • A full month’s salary × years of service (after 5 years)
  • Paid on arbitrary dismissal or expiry of a fixed-term contract
  • Ordinary resignation: no gratuity due (except for retirement)
